FACIAL IMPLANTS (3-D facial plastic surgery)

    Genioplasty

    Mandibular angles

    Cheekbones

    Overview

The combination of facial characteristics, proportions and balance determines a face’s beauty. Consciously or not, we are all able to know not only our face’s shape and proportions but of others, too. When other people’s facial balance is pleasing, our eyes are impressed. In a different case, we feel something is not right. This is where 3-D analysis and 3-D facial surgery come in. Beauty is determined by well-defined facial characteristics which are perfectly balanced among them. In the hands of expert plastic surgeons, implants can help you get a beautiful and harmonious face.

Many people express their concerns regarding the safety of facial implants. The implants are made of solid silicone. This material has been used for more than 60 years in all fields of Medicine. It has been used in pacemakers in Cardiology as well as in Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology and Orthopedics. Facial implants have been used to increase soft tissue enhancement for aesthetic or restoration purposes. Which parts of our face can we improve? Commonly, the areas requiring facial contour enhancement or improvement include:

    • The cheekbones
    • The chin
    • The mandibular angles

How to choose the right facial implant size

At our office, we have the ability to try several sizers (testing implants), take a photo of the patient, and analyze the implant size applicable to his/her case. Sizers can help both surgeons and patients co-decide on the right size. The simulation program combined with the sizers help us plan the surgery in our office. See the facial implant sizes below:

    1. Cheekbones sizers

    small (R-L),medium (R-L), large (R-L), extra large (R-L)

    2. Mandibular angle sizers
    small (R-L),medium (R-L),large (R-L)

    3 Chin sizers
    small,medium,large,extra-large

    The technique

All implants share the philosophy of implant placement. The plastic surgeon makes a small incision near the point where the implant is to be inserted. The incision is made either on a crease, or on the buccal mucous and is not visible. In this way, the surgeon makes a pocket to host the implant.

The whole procedure lasts 1 to 2 hours and no overnight hospitalization is needed. Buccal (oral) sutures are dissolvable.

    * In many cases we may combine implant placement with face lifting , blepharoplasty, or rhinoplasty .

    After the surgery

You may resume your social and professional activities within a week. Bruising remits within 1-2 days. You must be careful not to hurt the implant area for 4-6 weeks.
