When is abdominoplasty a good choice?

Mini or traditional. Indications

A full abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a good choice when you have excess skin above or below your belly button, and especially after you had children (except in patients after a dramatic weight loss).

Apart from excess fat tissue, you may also have a lot of skin loosening and possibly loosen abs with or without stretch marks.

There are a few things you should examine to see if you need a full or a mini abdominoplasty. For example, if when seated, you have excess skin above and below the belly button, you need a full abdominoplasty. In case excess skin is localized only below your belly button, a mini abdominoplasty could be the answer to your problem.

On some occasions, an experienced plastic surgeon could recommend a mini surgical procedure (to remove only the lower part of the abdominal skin) with a more aggressive liposuction. Given that a surgical procedure is more limited, a mini abdominoplasty could preserve blood supply and so an aggressive liposuction could be performed at the same time. In this way, less skin is removed.

Another important part of this procedure is the scars, which usually extend from hip to hip. These marks improve over time, but do not completely go away.

The basic thing is to choose a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience so that he will adequately and properly examine whether you need liposuction or a mini tummy tuck, with or without liposuction, or a full abdominoplasty.

This is quite significant as you will get the optimal postoperative result.
